Quaid-e-Azam Trophy: Aslam the lone warrior for Lahore Whites

Opener makes 140 as team ends first day 235-6 against NBP

Sami Aslam was the star of the show as his 140 not out took Lahore Whites to 235 against NBP on the opening day of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad yesterday.

Aslam was the only batsman to hold his ground as Lahore Whites kept losing wickets at regular intervals to end the day 235-6. Mohammad Waqas (31) and Mohammad Naveed (23) were the only other batsmen to cross the 20-run mark.

Qaisar Ashraf (two) and Aslam were on the crease at the end of play. For NBP, Bilal Asif claimed two wickets.

In the match at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot between SNGPL and FATA, SNGPL’s Iftikhar Ahmed hit 19 boundaries and a six in his 172-ball stay to make 127 runs. Opener Mohammad Hafeez (68) and Hussain Talat (55) made half-centuries each to take their side to 364-5 at stumps.

Ahmed and Adnan Akmal (31) were batting at the end of play.

FATA’s Irfanullah Shah and Ahmed Asfandyar bagged two wickets apiece, while Asif Ali claimed one.

At the Diamond Club Ground in Islamabad, Abid Ali’s 100-run and Afaq Rahim’s 61-run stand took Islamabad to 242-4 against SSGC at stumps. Shahid Yousuf (35) and Ali were on the crease when play was called off.

Ahmed Jamal, meanwhile, claimed three wickets for SSGC.

Domestic season to begin with T20 Cup

In the match between Rawalpindi and KRL at the Pindi Stadium, Rawalpindi’s Abid Hasan (four) and Sohail Tanvir (three) bagged a combined seven wickets between them to restrict KRL to 175 at the end of play.

Rawalpindi’s Shoaib Hasib and Mohammad Talha were on the crease when play was called off with the hosts 24-1.

In other matches, HBL were 235-3 against Peshawar at stumps with Imran Farhat (76) and Zohaib Khan (26) on the crease at the Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar; Karachi Whites were 81-2 at stumps after a Tabish Khan six-wicket haul restricted PIA to 167 in the first innings and Ayaz Tasawar (26) and Mohammad Irfan (one) were on the crease for WAPDA as the departmental outfit ended the day 302-9 against Lahore Blues.
