KARACHI: Prominent Christian leader and former MPA Michael Javaid died of cardiac arrest on Wednesday.

The founder and chairperson of the Pakistan Minorities Forum, Javaid was an active voice for religious minorities and their rights. He was also president of the All-Pakistan Minorities Alliance Sindh and Balochistan chapters.

Javaid was elected member Sindh Assembly four times between 1988 to 2002.Over his political career, Javaid remained associated with various political parties including the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). In its first session, the Karachi city council observed a minute's silence to honour the memory of the late politician.

Earlier, PTI Punjab Assembly member Muhammad Siddique Khan died of cardiac arrest on Sunday morning. He was the younger brother of the PTI central leader and National Assembly Member Ghulam Sarwar Khan and former MPA Shafique Khan.
