HARIPUR: A district court on Wednesday ordered an enquiry into a Haripur jail inmate being stabbed by his fellow inmates.

Zeba Rasheed, sister of the stabbed inmate Mehboobullah, told the district court that her brother had allegedly been attacked by a fellow inmate, Shiraz.

Pleading her case, she stated that she had gone to the jail on Tuesday to visit her brother. However, her brother was allegedly attacked by Shiraz after the two got into an altercation.

She told the court that her brother was attacked on his arms, chest and neck by a sharp object.

Accusing jail authorities of not providing her brother with proper treatment, she urged the court to shift Mehboobullah to a hospital outside the jail for proper medical care. She also requested the court to provide her with security and to register an FIR against Shiraz for the assault.

On her application, the court ordered the jail superintendent to submit an inquiry report on Thursday so that the complaint can be processed further.

Jail authorities confirmed that a brawl had taken place between the prisoners adding that the attackers have been confined to separate cells. On the other hand, Mehboobullah, who had suffered minor injuries, has been admitted to the jail hospital.
