Umpire denies reporting Pakistan women's captain Sana Mir's bowling action

Riazuddin says the tournament in not taking place under the auspices of the PCB

Test umpire Riazuddin has denied reporting Pakistan women’s team captain Sana Mir’s bowling action at the on-going State Bank of Pakistan Women Cricket Championship in Karachi.

“I have been the field umpire for all the matches and I have not reported any illegal action,” Riazuddin clarified while talking to The Express Tribune, adding that the news circulating about Sana’s action being reported as dubious has no truth.

He also said that the tournament is not being held under the auspices of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). “Even if any bowler bowls with an illegal action, they cannot be reported as it is not a PCB tournament,” Riazuddin added.

Also, a PCB official, while commenting on the topic backed Riazuddin’s statement. “The tournament is not being held under PCB and if any bowler is reported an illegal action then no action will be taken against them.”

Earlier, news was being circulated in the media that Sana’s bowling action was reported during the championship.

According to the news, Sana, who is the captain of ZTBL, was reported to be bowling with an illegal action by Riazuddin and the report had been sent to the PCB by match referee Iftikhar.

They further said that the decision on the 30-year-old’s bowling action will be reached once she appears in a test at the National Cricket Academy in a few days’ time.

Sana has represented Pakistan in 85 ODIs and has scored 1,107 runs courtesy two centuries. She has bagged 93 wickets too in the 50-over format.

Meanwhile, in T20Is, Sana has scored 669 runs with 70 wickets to her name in 70 matches.

Sana was also awarded Pride of Performance for her services to women’s cricket.
