We asked desginers to take a piece of paper and tell us how they’re feeling about the upcoming fashion season

September 25, 2016

Our talented designers are gearing up for the upcoming PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week 2016, and as always, stressed about all things fashion week! To lighten up their moods, we ask them to take a piece of paper, with one of their previous designs printed on it, and tell us how they’re feeling about the upcoming fashion season, through that piece of paper. Check out their creative answers below!

Faryal Aftab of Muse

I cut out a heart because our bridal collection is called ‘A Love Like Ours’. It is all about love and marriage. We are really excited to showcase our first bridal collection ever! I then cut out an exclamation mark because we are way behind our schedule, we only have six things ready and we need fifteen!

Sania Maskatiya

This is a print from our ‘Kuamka: Awakening’ collection, I think it’s a really captivating image. What I did was I cut some of the features of the woman out of the picture, along with the patterns that were forming on the page. I then rearranged them in a different way — a way that is a bit more exciting. It kind of reflects on how I’m feeling about fashion week. Fashion week is all about looking at your work again and again, trying to do something different and being creative with it.

My collection for fashion week is titled ‘The Kingdom’. I’m super excited about fashion week, it’s my baby, for me it’s seeing my child grow up. I’m super proud of PFDC and all the other designers.I’ve created a grand installation as the world of HSY. My work, or my existence, is a symbolism of hope and serves as an inspiration to many others out there, to dream big because anything is possible if you believe in it!

Ali Xeeshan

My bridal collection is called ‘Khamoshi’, like how a tree stands alone in silence! I’ve made a tree out of this paper because my collection is growing like a tree. We planted a seed and it blossomed into an entire collection. This is an abstract or maybe an artistic take on a growing tree. Our collection is growing and it’s developing day by day.

Kamiar Rokni of  The House of Kamiar Rokni

I created a smoke-able substance to have a good affect on my mood while I prepare for this collection. My collection is Fall/Winter 2016 bridals. I’m feeling pretty confident about it and curious to see how it turns out.

Shakira Usman of Saira Shakira

Our collection is called ‘Once Upon A Dream’. We are feeling a mix of everything, as we wanted to create something new and different. There is a sense of excitement for the show, stress for getting everything done on time, and nervousness for how it will be received on the day of the show. I drew on the paper, instead of cutting it out, to be different. I love scribbling and doodling and ended up drawing this tree branch!

Mahgul Rashid

I created a bracelet with beads. I cut strips from the paper and added beads to it. Bead-threading is known to be a very therapeutic exercise. I never take any last minute stress — my stressing days are long gone! I’m feeling very relaxed about my collection. It’s called ‘Trunks of Sabine’.

Shamsha Hashwani

I demonstrated my frustration and thoughts about PLBW by cutting out a question mark. This demonstrates my anxiousness, puzzled thoughts and the various last minute preparations that the show entails. It isn’t easy to meet the deadlines, match the perfect colours with the perfect kaam and do the finishing touches, especially when most of my staff is gone for Eid holidays. However, I am determined and very enthusiastic. I hope to create pieces that are different and unique from my usual work. Though many customers enjoy my signature style, I believe having variety in your wardrobe is essential.
