Friendly policing: Police told to check street crime, power theft

ISLAMABAD: The Noon police have been directed to control electricity transmission wire theft incidents, street crimes and narcotics trafficking in Sector I-16.

These directives were issued by the SSP Operations Sajid Kiani at an ‘open kutchery’ (public meeting) held at the sector on the directions of interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to listen to the complaints of the residents.

The notables of the locality, SDPO and SHO Noon police station also attended this kutchery.

Earlier the residents complained about rising street crime, drug abuse in surroundings of Noon and power transmission wire theft incidents.

The SSP listened to the problems of the people and issued directions to the police to immediately address them to restore public trust in police and ensure the culture of friendly policing and inform him about their progress on daily basis. The SSP ordered strict action against those involved in drug peddling as well as street crime.

He directed the area police to launch a crackdown against drug pushers and register cases against those involved in trafficking.

The SSP also ordered provision of an additional vehicle, a motorcycle and eight policemen to the Noon Police station to enhance its capacity and performance.

The SSP also directed officials to identify a suitable place for the establishment of a chowki in Jhangi Syedan area. He said the purpose of organising such ‘Open Kutchery’ is to present police for accountability before citizens because it is the best way to improve performance and win public support.

SSP Kiani sought their support in the eradication of crime from the area. He also told the participants about the success of the police against criminal elements and informed them about the steps taken to make the city peaceful.

He said that the police have decided to launch a campaign against the suspects and will start the house to house checking in the area. For this purpose, he urged the people to cooperate with the police in making the area ‘crime free’.

He also stressed for checking activities of the people in their surroundings especially of the tenants and inform the police in case of observing the suspects.
