HYDERABAD: The recurring power outages continued to distress people during the Eidul Azha holidays despite the federal government’s promise that uninterrupted electricity supply will be ensured during the three days.

Complaints of power outages poured in from almost all the districts in Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and Nawabshah divisions, which are powered by the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco). The company’s spokesperson did not respond to explain what prompted the situation.

Meanwhile, Information Adviser Maula Bux Chandio criticised the federal water and power ministry for the power outages. “Prime Minister [Nawaz Sharif] and two to three of his cabinet ministers are responsible for this trouble,” he alleged while speaking to the media on Tuesday. “They couldn’t ensure the power supply when we were offering the Eid namaz. The generator powered the mosque [while we prayed].”

He said the conduct of the water and power ministry is ‘condemnable’. Hesco has failed to deliver, he remarked, adding that the rural areas of Sindh are being denied power supply.
