Kashmiri MP resigns from India’s parliament to protest over atrocity in held Kashmir

Tariq Karra also steps down from his Peoples Democratic Party, accuses PDP of being a collaborator of RSS

Pro-India Kashmiri lawmaker and leader of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Tariq Karra tendered his resignation from India's parliament and his party on Thursday, after accusing the PDP of being a collaborator of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

"The PDP has become a collaborator for fascist RSS governed BJP [Bharatiya Janata Party]," Karra told reporters.

Karra, one of the founding members of PDP, who got elected to the Lok Sabha in 2014 and was a close aide of the late Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed.

He is known as a prominent pro-India Kashmiri politician, who had always opposed the idea of a PDP-BJP alliance and even made his reservations known earlier also.

The resignation comes as the Kashmir Valley is battling months of the deadliest insurgency it has suffered in six years. Over 80 people have been killed and thousands injured in clashes with security forces.

Pakistan urges international community to help Indian Kashmiris

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will be visiting New York next week to address the UN Assembly and intends to highlight the violation of human rights taking place in Indian-held Kashmir.

“The day is not far when Jammu & Kashmir will become Pakistan. No one can stop freedom movement in occupied Kashmir,” the prime minister said while addressing a rally in Muzaffarabad after the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) emerged as the front-runner in Azad Jammu & Kashmir.
