ISLAMABAD: The National Counter Terrorism Authority (Nacta) has asked provincial governments to rationalise their respective fourth schedule lists, sources said.

The provinces were expected to submit a compact and rationalised list to Nacta, enabling it to forge a counter-terrorism strategy.

But instead the lists were littered with “very common mistakes”. The lists carried many names without details of their CNICs or even their residential addresses.

They also contained the names of some religious personalities – much to the shock of Nacta officials. Among them were names of persons who generally played a vital role in maintaining peace during Muharram or Rabiul Awal, sources said.

They urged the provincial authorities to rationalise the list before submitting it to Nacta by the end of this month.

Most of the fourth schedulers’ lists compiled by the provinces bore names of persons belonging to proscribed organisations or those involved in sectarian violence.

It has also been learnt that the Punjab government’s idea of placing a computerised chip in the body of Fourth Schedulers has been dropped.

Currently, there are at least 8,000 persons whose names are on the Fourth Schedule across the country and half of them are from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
