PESHAWAR: An education expo was held at a hotel in the city on Saturday to inform students about a diverse menu of opportunities to study abroad.

The initiative was organised by leading universities of Turkey in collaboration with the Turkish Embassy, Pakistan and Foreign Education Services (FES). A large number of students from public and private schools participated in the event.

Hamidul Haq, the chief guest, urged the students of the province to take advantage of insights provided by experts and professionals during the expo.

“This will help them learn about the admission process and scholarship opportunities at universities in Turkey,” he said. “The PTI-led government in the province has provided students with ample opportunities to expand their horizon of studies in foreign universities.”

FES Chief Executive Officer Tehseen Shah told student scholarships ranging from between 10% and 100% were available for students at four main universities in Turkey.

“Admissions are being offered in the natural sciences, arts and humanities, engineering and social sciences programmes,” he said. “More than seven events of this nature have been organised across the country.”

The event also provided visa procedure guidelines along with information on suitable courses in different universities.

Warehouse of knowledge

Fazal Akbar, a student who attended the education expo, told The Express Tribune it was the first time he has seen universities from Turkey organise an expo in Peshawar.

“I want to gain admission in a social sciences programme at one of the top universities of Turkey as the fee structure is affordable,” Fazal said. Sheraz Ahmad, who studies at University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, said the expo not only provided opportunities to study abroad but also provided a platform to interact with foreigners.

“Students in K-P and Fata, unlike their counterparts in other provinces, were unaware of these kinds of opportunities,” he added.

Ahmed pressed the government to invite other foreign universities and arrange such programmes more frequently to provide opportunities to students of K-P and Fata.
