Demographic explosion

TURBAT: One of the most dreaded problems all over the world is the growth of population having a direct effect on a country’s economic development. Poverty is closely connected with increasing populations. The theories of subsistence levels and minimum diets are dependent on population size. Food production in the country is continuously decreasing and is often insufficient to support the population. The government has not been able to arrest the population growth rate despite having family planning programmes, due to a lack of practical use of birth control methods.

The government has admitted failure in limiting the population to the proposed target of 2.6 per cent. Funds allocated for programmes designed to arrest population growth are clearly insufficient. The government may be conscious of the alarming population growth but has done little to stem it. The bulk of the work in this regard has been done by non-governmental organisations in the field.
