HYDERABAD: The Sindh government’s alleged intervention in the affairs of government universities has drawn a call for a teachers’ boycott across Sindh on August 31.

The Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (Fapuasa), Sindh chapter, announced the strike call on Thursday in Jamshoro after a meeting of its constituent associations representing many government universities of Sindh.

On August 31, we will boycott the varsities for a day if the government doesn’t accept our demands by August 30, said Fapuasa’s president, Shahnawaz Talpur, and secretary-general, Shakeel Farooqi.

The Sindh Universities Officers Welfare Association (Suowa) is also likely to join forces with the teachers in their protest movement. The two organisations were noticed to be treading separate paths for over a year due to their differences over the appointment of the teachers on the administrative positions.

Murtaza Siyal, an office-bearer of Suowa, informed that although they have reached an informal agreement with Fapuasa, the final draft was agreed during a meeting on Thursday night.
