LAHORE: Boxer Amir Khan has claimed that land given to him by the Punjab government to establish a boxing academy near Lahore's FIFA Football office was "disputed."

Addressing the media on Wednesday, the British boxer of Pakistani origin said, “The chief minister had promised to give me land for setting up a boxing academy but practically I have been given no land.” Speaking to The Express Tribune, Khan's spokesperson in Pakistan Anwaar said that the boxer was scheduled to meet the Punjab Sports Secretary tomorrow to discuss the matter with him.

Anwaar further added that Khan and other concerned authorities recently met Education Minister Rana Mashhood who informed them that the Punjab government had a dispute with the federal government over the concerned land. He said they had been told that the dispute had been settled and the land now belonged to the Punjab government.

“Tomorrow they are going to meet officials of the Punjab government. If there any updates regarding the establishment of the boxing academy, Khan will formally announce it before the media,” Anwaar said.

According to reports, a Punjab government spokesperson claimed that the chief minister had not made any promise to Khan on giving him a piece of land to establish a boxing academy in Lahore. “The Punjab government is setting up a boxing academy near Gaddafi Stadium at a cost of Rs100 million. The government of the Punjab requested  Khan to coach the young talent there,” he said. The spokesperson also said that work on the boxing hall would start this year.
