PARACHINAR: At least two students of a private school died at the hospital after consuming poisonous food in Parachinar, Kurram Agency on Friday.

Over 200 students from various schools had been brought to the hospital.

According to the agency surgeon of the headquarters hospital, the children were suffering from high fever and were persistently vomiting.

“They had consumed food and drinks at school canteens on Thursday,” he told The Express Tribune. “At least two of them died on Friday.”

Prompt action has been taken against the matter.

“I have ordered all private schools in the area to be closed down,” Kurram Agency Assistant Political Agent Shahid Ali Khan told The Express Tribune. “Most of the affected students hail from Karaman, Yousaf Khel.”

The political administration declared an emergency in the agency headquarters hospital on Thursday.

“Most of the ailing students recovered after being administered medical aid and were discharged from the hospital,” a senior official of the hospital told The Express Tribune.

The political administration has also taken people into custody for interrogation, who sold snacks. It has also ordered the agency surgeon and other health staff to provide the best health facilities to patients. An enquiry into the case has also been ordered.
