DERA GHAZI KHAN/ BAHAWALPUR: The district government of Bahawalpur will give away awards to citizens for best decorated home, vehicle, market and office, Additional District Collector Imrana Ajmal said at a meeting on Thursday.

Ajmal had called a meeting at the DCO’s office to review preparations for Independence Day celebrations. Bahawalpur City Assistant Commissioner Rao Tasleem Akhter, Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rauf and Tehsil Municipal Officer Arshad Ghumman attended the meeting.

“We want to encourage citizens to decorate their homes, offices, shops, plazas, markets, banks, petrol pumps, hotels, restaurants and cars, motor cycles, cycles and rickshaws for Independence Day,” Ajmal said. She said it could be a great exercise that would involve everyone in the city.

She said a special desk had been set up at the Bahawalpur City Tehsil Municipal Administration to receive particulars of people interested in participating.

Dera Ghazi Khan

DCO Nadeemur Rehman said on Thursday that arrangements for Independence Day celebrations were complete. “We have prepared a security plan in this regard as well.”

He said the Agriculture Department would hold a cattle show. The Government College of Commerce would hold a divisional debating competition. The Dera Ghazi Khan Medical College would hold debates and poetry completions in connection with the celebrations. Separately, a poetry contest will be held at the Dera Ghazi Khan Arts Council.

The Sanatzar Social Welfare Complex and the Government Boys Degree College, Taunsa, will hold tableaus and an industrial exhibition, Urdu and English debate competitions, and national songs, posters, paintings and poetry shows. The Dera Ghazi Khan Arts Council has scheduled a musical concert and fireworks show. The main ceremony will be held at the Dera Ghazi Khan Arts Council on August 14. A flag hoisting ceremony will be held at Fort Munro, Police Lines and the United Church. A full dress rehearsal for the main ceremony will be held on August 13 at the Dera Ghazi Khan Arts Council.
