ISLAMABAD: The deadly suicide bombing that killed over 70 people at a gathering of lawyers on the grounds of a government-run hospital in Quetta was the latest in a string of attacks on the lawyers’ community by militant groups around the country.

Here is a look at some major attacks by militants in the past.

July 17, 2007: A suicide bomber attacks Islamabad Kacheri, killing 17 persons, including PPP workers and lawyers.

40 killed in blast at Quetta’s civil hospital after lawyer’s killing

May 12, 2007: Over 40 people, including lawyers, were killed in Karachi on the arrival of former CJP Iftikhar Chaudhry to address the Sindh High Court Bar Association.

April 8, 2008: Six lawyers were burnt alive in Karachi.

March 19, 2013: At least four people were killed and nearly 30 others were injured in a suicide attack on a judicial complex in Peshawar.

March 3, 2014: Eleven persons were killed and 25 others injured after a gun and twin suicide attack on the Islamabad district courts. The lawyers were the main target in this attack.

Moreover, a number of lawyers were also targeted individually. For example, special prosecutor in the Benazir Bhutto murder case, Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali, was murdered in May 2013.
