FAISALABAD:

Scores of residents of Nurpur and Satiana Road gathered in front of the City District Government Complex on Monday and demanded that the police act immediately to recover a man who had gone missing two years ago.

They shouted slogans against Saddar police officials, who they said, had not done enough to find the man. They staged a sit-in at Zila Council Chowk and blocked traffic for more than two hours. The protesters held up placards and banners with the slogans: “We demand Shahzad’s recovery”, “We want justice”, “Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, please ensure justice”, “Chief Justice of Pakistan, please order Shahzad’s recovery”.

The protesters also demanded action against the police officers in charge of the case. “They did not lift a finger to find my boy,” Muhammad Qasim, Shahzad’s father, said. He said the police’s indifference to their plight had cut deep.

“My son was 17 years old when he left our home early in the morning two years ago and did not return,” he said. Qasim said that they had visited the police and had filed a missing person report. “It’s been two years and the police haven’t reported a single lead,” he said. Another relative said that the family had gone from pillar to post to convince the police to look for the missing man. “We have tried to get our request to the RPO, the chief minister and the police IG…nothing has come of our efforts.”
