HYDERABAD: The Sindh police chief cited some seminaries teaching extremism as a threat to peace in the province.

Terrorists have spread from the tribal areas to other parts of Sindh, said provincial IG Allah Dino Khawaja, addressing an event in Thatta district and later while talking to the media on Friday.

"There are some seminaries in Sindh which instead of teaching Islam and peace are radicalising their students," said Khawaja.

Seminaries to adopt federal board’s syllabus

The police wanted to ensure that such seminaries do not open without permission from the relevant authorities. "We need the cooperation of the people of Sindh to deal with this problem," shared Khawaja. However, Khawaja did not elaborate on which parts of Sindh such seminaries have been functioning and to which faith or religious groups they are associated with.

Receptions are going to be formed in the police stations of Sindh to facilitate the citizens, said Khawaja.

‘Seminary students should be encouraged to foster talent’

"After every 15 days, the recording [from CCTV cameras] will be checked to evaluate behaviour of the policemen with the citizens [at the reception]," he informed.
