LAHORE: A two-member Supreme Court (SC) bench on Thursday expressed concern over the rising incidents of children being kidnapped in the Punjab and directed the IGP to submit a detailed report on the matter.

The bench also summoned the parents of missing children on August 3.

The court observed that it was a matter of serious nature. It said it would ensure the recovery of the children.

On July 2, Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, the acting chief justice, had taken suo motu notice of the situation and sought a report from the IGP.

On Thursday, the IGP submitted the report. It said that of the 767 children reported kidnapped this year, 715 had been recovered.  It said police were looking for the remaining children. The majority of children were reported kidnapped from Lahore, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur and Bahawalnagar.

Four of the children were kidnapped for ransom. The report said that 6,793 children had been reported kidnapped from 2011 to 2016.
