On the same page: Rs700 million budget passed for Mardan

Significant portion has been allocated for development projects in district

MARDAN: The district council of Mardan has passed Rs700 million annual budget of 2016-17 with majority consensus on Thursday. A significant portion of the budget has been allocated for development projects in the district.

Mardan district nazim Himayatullah Mayar expressed his gratitude for members for trusting the allocation and budgeting proces.

“This budget will show that we prefer development projects in Mardan,” he said. “We have allocated significant portion of the budget – more than Rs980 million – for development projects.”

“We have allocated the same proportion of funds for ruling and opposition members in the budget,” Mayar added. “To encourage students in the district, we have allocated Rs50 million for an initiative that is geared toward growing flowers in Mardan. The technical enhancement programme and scholarships for underprivileged students have also been allocated funds.”



“We have also allocated Rs5 million to reconstruct roads, Rs20 million for the health sector, Rs2.9 million for water and sanitation, Rs10 million for women’s welfare programme, Rs10 million for sports and culture.”  The district administration will also have Rs70 million as discretionary funds which will be utilised for infrastructural development in underprivileged areas of the district

He lauded the provincial government’s decision to establish a cadet college for women in Mardan. The district nazim also threw his weight behind plans to widen roads and introduce beautification schemes in the region. The district opposition leader, Shaukat Ali, congratulated the district nazim and the house for passing such a balanced budget. He also showed gratitude for consulting the opposition leadership and members in the process of making the budget.
