Gen Raheel meets President Sisi to discuss regional security situation

ISLAMABAD: Army chief General Raheel Sharif, who is currently visiting Egypt, on Tuesday called for unity among Muslim nations to fight the menace of terrorism.

He made these remarks during a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el Sisi in Cario where, according to the military’s media wing, “regional security situation and emerging security challenges were discussed”.

The Egyptian leader acknowledged Pakistan Army’s successes in the fight against terrorism and Pakistan’s efforts for regional stability, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

In his remarks, the army chief emphasised the need for the world and Muslim Ummah to unite for fighting the menace of terrorism.
He also visited Egypt’s Special Forces and witnessed training and other activities. He appreciated their skills and capabilities.

In his other engagements, Gen Raheel met Sheikhul Azhar, Ahmed el Tayeb in Al-Azhar University, who appreciated Pakistan’s efforts towards eliminating terrorism. Gen Raheel emphasised the need to harness Muslim youth towards enlightenment, technological advancement, moderation and harmony.
