LAHORE: Weather turned pleasant in the City following a light rain on Monday.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain-thunderstorm with gusty winds in Lahore and in upper Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha and Faisalabad, over the next three days.

Monsoon rains are also expected in Islamabad and Kashmir; at isolated places in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) in Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat, Mardan, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan divisions; the FATA; eastern Balochistan; and in Gilgit-Baltistan.

A spokesman for the PMD said monsoon currents were likely to penetrate the upper and central parts of the country over the next 48 hours. Rain-thunderstorm is also expected at isolated places in Gilgit-Baltistan, Sindh and eastern parts of Balochistan, including Zhob, Sibbi, Naseerabad and Kalat divisions, during the period.

Met Office said the downpour might result in flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas in the Punjab, KP, GB and Kashmir. Rain coupled with glacier-melt might result in GLOF [glacial lake outburst flood] events in vulnerable areas of Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan.
