Upward trend: Price of most vegetables higher at Sunday Bazaars

The vegetable sold for Rs57 to Rs60 a kilogramme

LAHORE: The prices of most vegetables were higher at Sunday Bazaars compared to last week. According to the official price list, the highest raise of 71 per cent was recorded in the price of bitter gourds. The vegetable sold for Rs57 to Rs60 a kilogramme.

The price of bottle gourd was up by 69 per cent as it sold for Rs62 to Rs66 a kilogramme. The price of brinjals was higher by 62 per cent as these were available for Rs60 to Rs65 a kilogramme. The prices of cabbages and tomatoes were higher by 47 and 46 per cent. Cabbages sold for Rs63 to Rss66 a kilogramme and tomatoes for Rs89 to Rs95 a kilogramme.

There was a 39 per cent raise in the price of peas as these sold for Rs150 to Rs160 a kilogramme. Prices of radishes were up by 33 per cent increase as these were sold for Rs18 to Rs20 a kilogramme. The price of garlic (native) rose by 31 per cent as it sold for Rs210 to Rs222 a kilogramme.

The price of premium quality native lemons was up by 29 per cent as these were available for Rs83 to Rs90 a kilogramme. The prices of okra were higher by 19 per cent as it sold for Rs90 to Rs95 a kilogramme.

The price of cauliflowers rose by 18 per cent as these were sold for Rs67 to Rs71 a kilogramme. Chinese garlic prices rose by 17 per cent. It was available for Rs221 to Rs235 a kilogramme.

Chinese carrots were available for Rs37 to Rs40 a kilogramme following a hike of 14 per cent in their prices. The prices of potatoes were up by 12 per cent as these sold for Rs35 to Rs38 a kilogramme. The sugar-free variety of potatoes was available for Rs23 to Rs26 a kilogramme and cold-stored potatoes sold for Rs17 to Rs19 a kilogramme.

The price of native cucumbers rose by 11 per cent as these sold for Rs46 to Rs50 a kilogramme. Native green chilies sold for Rs51 to Rs55 a kilogramme following a raise of 10 per cent in their prices. The prices of taro roots (arvi) were up by 9 per cent as these were available for Rs56 to Rs60 a kilogramme. Native round gourds were available for Rs70 to Rs74 a kilogramme with raise of six per cent in their prices.

The prices of fenugreek (methi), onions, pumpkins, turnips and capsicums were lower. The prices of methi dropped by 29 per cent as it was available for Rs56 to Rs60 a kilogramme. The price of onions dropped by 25 per cent as these sold for Rs15 to Rs18 a kilogramme.

The price of pumpkins was lower by 11 per cent as these sold for Rs8 a kilogramme. Turnips were available for Rs36 a kilogramme after their prices dropped by 10 per cent. The price of capsicums was lower by five per cent as these sold for Rs57 to Rs62 a kilogramme.

The price of Chinese ginger and spinaches remained stable at Rs65 to Rs70 and Rs26 to Rs30 a kilogramme, respectively.
