President asks Jang Group to apologise for publishing false news about him secretly marrying a woman.
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday asked the Jang Group to apologise for publishing a false and concocted story printed against him, or face legal action.
The Jang Group recently published a story claiming that the president had secretly married a woman named Tanveer Zamani. The story claimed that the marriage had taken place in Dubai. The story was published by the Jang newspaper even after the presidential spokesman had denied the allegations.
Following the publication of this news item, legal firm Locke Lord Bissell and Lidell were hired by the president to pursue the case. The firm has sent an email to Jang Group chief, Mir Shakeelur Rehman, asking him to retract the said news item and publish an apology.
The notice also warns the media group that unless a retraction and apology is issued immediately, legal action will be initiated for libel, malicious publication and infliction of emotional distress in all jurisdictions where the newspaper has been published.
It also says that if an apology or retraction is not issued,
the lawsuit will seek compensation in excess of $100 million, which will be donated to the victims of floods in Pakistan. The law firm says the rumors were based on a lie fostered by an internet hoax.

Nail them as hard as possible. They have been acting like an eveninger/tabloid would than a responsible media organization. It is also sad that the report was filed by none other than a Group Editor level person. Recommend

Responsible reporting is a mustRecommend
Jang Group’s ambitious plan is to become Rupert Murdoch of Pakistan. Playing the role of a state within the starte, the group has assumed the role of the king maker. A couple of journalists of the group are undoubtedly playing dirty roles. What they are doing is certainly not healthy but yellow journalism. One of them who claims Benazir Bhutto used to consult and take his advice on national politics, now feels jittery on being totally lignored by the new set-up of Zardari. He has clenched his fists in frustration and giving vent to his anger by filling from lhis home town in america controversial ‘polirtical analysis’ and other matter.
He wants his ‘importanace’ be felt in the higher echelon.
Another journalist has rercently taken the lives of two important peace brokers by his highly irresponsible journalism. He is spoiling the name of his late father who was a respectable name in the journalistic fraternity. Recommend
Media should be held accountable for irresponsible reporting. If this is a lie, JAng Group should go down. I admire the fact that the money would be paid for charity in Pakistan. I hope they lose and I hope it serves as a lesson to them in the future. They dodnt care about the country….just a money minting enterprise spreading restlessness and lawlessness in PakistanRecommend
Ignorable in this case. Don’t it??Recommend
Are there any libel laws in Pakistan?Recommend
the most biased media group of pakistan ..infact indian agent …see the role in case of ajmal kisab …always willing to sell interst of contry shme on jung groupRecommend
Good reply by Zerdari…Recommend
Good step taken by the Bhutto Family. Jang Group is behaving like a government within a government. As long as their strong patrons and groups are behind them no action should be expected. Just imagine they owe billions in tax but strangely they are being protected. They are only reduced to spokesperson of some and is not regarded as a News Paper.Recommend
Jang group has big problem with Zardari. This is a personal war declared by Mir Shakil Ur Rehman against Asif ZardariRecommend
I hope the cases will not be heard in Pakistani courts…you know what i am saying :)Recommend
Even the libels do have some base. The News group in question must be given time to prove its innocence.Recommend
I wouldn’t be surprised if Zardari did remarry.Recommend
This is called the irresponsible behavior of media. They just sell stories and do not care whether it is news or rumors that they publish or broadcast. Recommend
This is a personal issue and If Mr. Zardari wishes to keep his marriage a secret then his choose should be respected. Really The Jang Group should not stoop so low as such personal matters are best respectedRecommend
Jang Group should immediately apologize or face music for publishing propagandist news instead of gathered information.. Recommend
welldone zardari. Recommend

Well, until now, after all brutal oppositions, Mr President you should have earned a soft cornor in heart of thousands if not hundreds of thousands. Lets see what is coming next. Recommend
