Raids and operations: Drug peddlers caught, 135kg hashish seized

KARACHI: Baldia Town police claimed to have arrested a gang of drug peddlers and seized a huge cache of narcotics. Separately, over half-a-dozen suspects, including two suspected militants, were arrested during ongoing targeted raids and operations on Friday.

A gang of drug peddlers, comprised at least six members, were arrested by Baldia Town police. Their arrests were made public during a press conference on Friday evening held by Baldia division SP Asif Razzak at his office. SP Razzak said that the arrests were made during a targeted raid conducted on a tip-off near Mawach Goth Morr in Madina Colony.

He said the gang also comprised female members, adding that four of the six members were women. The female peddlers have been identified as Husna, Khadija, Fehmida and Nazia, while their male counterparts were identified as Anis Ghaffor and Sheraz Aijaz. The officer said that Anis and Nazia are siblings and have been involved in the business for the past few years, adding that the police received information that the criminals were trying to transport hashish from one place to another using a Suzuki van. When the police arrested them they recovered over 135 kilogrammes of hashish from their possession. Cases against them were registered and further investigation is underway.

Other raids

Similarly, two suspected militants were arrested during a raid conducted in the Sacchal area. The accused persons are said to be associated with banned militant outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and hand grenades and other weapons were seized from them.

Separately, two accused were arrested during a raid conducted in North Nazimabad. The accused were identified as Adil and Hameed. Police said that the suspects were involved in various cases of street crime and that weapons were also recovered from their possession. In another raid in Jauharabad, three suspected criminals were arrested. The suspects were identified as Sunny Masih, Shahzad Hanif and Sunny Saleem. Weapons were also recovered from their possession.
