Two arrested for illegal accumulation of assets

PESHAWAR: NAB K-P has arrested Zakiullah, former secretary of the housing department, and his brother, Zafarullah Khan, ex-assistant inspector general traffic police.  They are believed to have accumulated illegal assets worth Rs150 million.

The matter was brought into the notice of NAB. An enquiry was authorised to ascertain the facts and collect evidence regarding property owned, controlled and possessed by the accused in their name and in the names of their dependents. During the course of the enquiry, it was revealed that Zakiullah was posted at a key position as a member of the CM’s inspection team. Meanwhile, his brother also joined government service and held various portfolios.

During their tenures, both accused accumulated assets worth millions of rupees in their name and in the name of their dependents. Their properties were disproportionate to known sources of their income. The accumulated wealth include five houses, five plots and two cars. Zakiullah was previously arrested by NAB for his alleged involvement in a multi-million rupee scam in Mouza Darwaza in Abbottabad. An enquiry is being actively pursued and the accused will be presented in the accountability court to obtain physical remand.
