Bad-minton: Pakistani juniors continue losing streak

Team of four hasn’t won single set in two days of play

KARACHI: Pakistan’s junior badminton players failed to impress on the second day of SCG Badminton Asia Junior Championship, losing their boys’ double tie in Bangkok, Thailand yesterday.

The pairing of Shahmeer Iftikhar and Shehroz Jamil lost out 2-0 to Japan’s Naoki Yamazawa and Kyohei Yamashita with set scores of 21-9 and 21-7.

The doubles defeat came a day after Iftikhar, Jamil, Ahmer Jalal and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa youngster Zohaib Khalil suffered 2-0 defeats at the hands of Thailand’s Pachaarapol Nipornram, China’s Hongyang Weng, Japan’s Kyohei Yamashita and Macau’s Lam Hou Him respectively.

In another doubles match, the pairing of Jalal and Khalil were defeated 2-0 by Thailand’s Natchanon Tulamok and Sukrit Maunglai.

“After the training we received at home we were confident of playing well, but the players from other countries are far better than us and use a variety of modern techniques,” Khalil told The Express Tribune.
