LAHORE: Those demanding the prime minister’s resignation should themselves be held accountable, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Sunday.

He was addressing a ceremony held to mark the inauguration of the 60-bed Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Raiwind.

“Before asking for the prime minister to resign, you should hold your father accountable. Even if a single corruption case is proved, your father will have to live abroad forever,” the CM said while referring to the Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

The chief minister also criticised Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan. “Imran Khan lied about Maryam Nawaz. Being the head of a political party, such things do not suit him,” he said.

The CM inspected various wards of the hospital as well as the X-ray room and the laboratory. He directed officials to computerise hospital records. “Patients coming to the hospital should not face any problem,” the CM said. He said it was responsibility of the doctors to treat patients with the utmost care.

The chief minister said that he had fulfilled the promises made to the people of the area during the election campaign. “Work on the construction of a flyover in the area will start this month,” he said.

Botanic garden: The CM inaugurated a butterfly house and a botanical garden at Jallo Forest and Wildlife Park on Sunday. The CM also visited the butterfly house. “Walkways in the butterfly house will attract tourists. A food court has also been established here for visitors,” he said.

He praised the Parks and Horticulture Authority for completing the project on time and announced a one-month salary for its staff as a bonus. The chief minister also inaugurated the Punjab Institute of Quran and Seerat Studies on Sunday. Justice (r) Khalilur Rehman Khan and ulema were also present on the occasion. The CM said the institute would promote research.

Bahawalpur

The CM has taken notice of the non-completion of a sewerage project in Rahim Yar Khan. He has directed officials to present an inquiry report about the Rs2.5 billion project within two weeks.

He was addressing a meeting through video link to review sewerage scheme. Bahawalpur Division Commissioner Saqib Zafar, DCO Rahim Yar Khan Captain (r) Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, MNA Mian Imtiaz Ahmad and MPA Muhammad Jaffar were also present.

The CM directed the DCO to supervise the ongoing operation to resolve sewerage problems in Rahim Yar Khan. He also directed officials to take steps to drain water from low-lying areas of the city.

MNA Mian Imtiaz Ahmad said that it was necessary to increase the capacity of the Rahim Yar Khan Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) to deal with the problems facing the city. The CM directed officials to formulate a final report in collaboration with the provincial minister and secretary.
