PESHAWAR: The provincial government plans to introduce Fachhochschule or the University of Applied Sciences (UAS) at universities across the province.

UAS is a tertiary education system that specialises in topical areas such as engineering, technology and business. It was introduced in 1960 in Austria and aims to impart a diverse menu of skills to students.

This was announced by Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Information and Higher Education Mushtaq Ghani while speaking to The Express Tribune on Sunday.

According to Ghani, the government plans to start this new system at technical universities to enhance professional studies.  “The provincial government allocated Rs9 billion for higher education in budget 2016-17,” he said. “It therefore plans to introduce UAS for the first time in Pakistan.” He added UAS will be implemented at University of Haripur in collaboration with five other technical universities in K-P.
