General Raheel’s mission

Letter July 01, 2016
The armed forces of the country have emerged as the most effective force

RAWALPINDI: What General Raheel Sharif has done in his three-year term as Pakistan’s army chief, leaves a clear outline for his successors to take up. He has changed the concept of war, both at home and on the borders. A performance lesser than his would prove to be counterproductive and detrimental for the security doctrine of the Pakistan Army.

The armed forces of the country have emerged as the most effective force. This impression will have to be maintained at all costs. The challenges that Pakistan faces are huge, keeping in view President Obama’s forecast that the South Asian region will remain in turmoil for at least another 10 years. This must be taken into account and made part of our agenda. If General Raheel doesn’t get an extension, he will hopefully leave behind a leadership of high calibre and ability in the military, which will finish the job he started.
