LAHORE: A Christian woman was allegedly molested and tortured by four men wanting to avenge elopement of a Muslim woman in Lahore.

28-year-old Shaheena* accused Wasif Naseer, Umer and two others of barging into her house near Haji Park, Shad Bagh and asking about her brother whereabouts.

Shaheena, a mother of five, further said the suspects tortured her, tore her clothes apart and tried to rape her after she said she did not have knowledge of her brother Badal's, whereabouts.

Wasif Naseer and other attackers seemed to believe that Badal and his sister Shagufta had kidnapped the former's wife Shazia*.

The woman maintained that she managed to flee from the scene and saved herself by jumping onto the roof of her neighbour's house. Shaheena also said she had registered a case with Shadbagh police but no action had been taken as of yet.

However, police denied occurrence of any such incident, saying a case had been registered against Shaheena’s brother and sister over the disappearance of Wasif's wife. Shaheena's sister had been taken into custody and the family was trying to pressurise police and the complainants using such tactics, police added.

Earlier on June 14, three people including a woman were shot and injured as four gunmen barged into their house in Dera Ismael Khan.

According to head of the family Ghulam Akbar, the armed men wanted to force them to compromise after one of them had earlier raped his nephew.
