A man died and four others were injured on Thursday after an 11KV transmission line broke away and fell in a street in Rajanpur on Thursday. Police said the transmission line in Khwaja Basti of Kot Mithan had broken away because of a storm. The wire came in contact with five people – Shabbir Shah, 21, suffered the worst of it and died on the spot from an electric shock.   Rescue-1122 officials said Mujahid, 12, 9-year-old Sharjeela, 5-year-old Fazila and an elderly woman were seriously injured. They said the injured people were taken to the Rajanpur District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.

The families of the injured and the deceased protested in front of the WAPDA Office and blocked the road. When the police tried to disperse the protesters, they beat up some of the policemen. Rajanpur City police have filed two cases – one against the protesters and the other against WAPDA.
