One piece three ways: Zaheer Abbas

Three fashionistas showing us how to put together an item from a designers collection

While trends fade, style remains eternal and one piece can be put together in many different ways. In this feature we have three fashionistas showing us how to put together an item from a designers collection, according to their own individual style and taste!

This organza jacket has been hand-draped by Zaheer Abbas himself. Originally, the piece was part of the ‘Primavera’ collection and was stitched to a dress. Then, the designer recreated the jacket into a stand-alone piece. Abbas says: “A lot of pain and time has gone into creating this jacket, since it is hand-draped and hand-stitched. It is essentially a couture piece without any embellishment”.

Stylist and make-up artist

I’m a huge fan of everything Zaheer Abbas. With the long white organza draped jacket, I chose to opt for a white-on-white ensemble. I wore bell-bottom pants and a cut-off sleeve top, since I felt that it would give a nice twist to the otherwise classy outfit. I sported my gold Fendi heels with a gold and black chain belt for a fitted yet flowy look. I chose to go with minimal accessories to avoid taking attention away from the piece. I wore simple earrings and added my transparent Balenciaga clutch, which always does justice in adding to a minimalist look. Sephorah Salon kept my eye make-up very subtle and gave me deep-maroon vampy lips. I asked them to keep my hair neat and straight, which again adds to the classic style I was opting for. I would wear this ensemble to a formal event in the day or night.

What I loved about this beautifully flowing organza jacket is that you can dress it up or down. I like brighter colours and I would describe my style as trendy, so to style this outfit, I wore a black crop-top from Top Shop, acid-washed jeans from Royal Spades, a pair of black round-toed heels, and a bright orange mini Celine tote to add some colour. I accessorised with the Hermes ‘H’ bracelet and a gold Cartier ‘Love’ bangle, as well as a statement ring from Esfir Jewels. Sephorah Salon did my hair and make-up. I like a lot of volume for my hair while keeping the length long, and the salon gave me just that, loosely clipping a small portion. For make-up, they went for dark eye shadow and applied a vibrant pink lipstick. I especially liked how they highlighted my cheekbones. I would wear this outfit to a day party.

I wanted my look to focus on my off-duty style, which is very comfortable and laid-back, yet on-trend. So with this beautifully draped organza jacket, I opted to wear my favourite denim shorts, a plain white tank-top and a pair of white sneakers from Mango. I put on the organza jacket and then belted it using a thin, red leather belt. I accessorised using gold bangles and a choker necklace. I kept my make-up simple, using light eye shadow, barely-there eyeliner, finishing off my look with a light pink lipstick. Sephorah Salon gave me a man-bun, which I think went perfectly with the look I was trying to create. I would wear this outfit casually in the afternoon — it’s also definitely a look I would sport while on summer vacation!
