KARACHI: Contrary to the Economic Survey 2015-16’s statement that K-Electric’s output of electricity continued to decline, the power utility categorically said that the energy supplied by the company has increased by 5.1% during the year ended June 30, 2015 as compared to the same period last year, while increasing 3.8% during the nine-month period ended March 31 2016 as compared to the corresponding period last year.

Priority area: K-Electric’s output continues to decline

According to a statement, issued a day after the Economic Survey was unveiled, the utility provider shared that K-Electric supplied 16,111 million units (Gwh) during the year ended June 30, 2015 as compared to 15,332 million units (Gwh) during the previous year ended June 30 2014.

“This growth was made possible due to addition of steam turbine at CCPP Korangi and through enhanced maintenance of existing fleet,” said the statement.

K-Electric spokesperson shared, “We have invested over $1.2 billion in our generation capacity, transmission networks and distribution services since 2009. Over the next 5 to 6 years we plan to invest another $2.2 billion to further enhance our infrastructure as part of our aspiration to become a net exporter of electricity by 2020.”

The company said that it has added 1,037 MW in the past six years and recently commenced work on a $400 million transmission upgrade project. Upcoming initiatives include a 700 MW coal-based power project at Port Qasim to diversify the fuel mix.

S.R.H. Hashmi | 7 years ago | Reply I do not really know whether K-Electric's output has increased, and do not care about it either. All I know is that in addition to three regular load-shedding spells of two and a half hours each, I now get additional, unscheduled bits of blackouts of varying duration thrown in as bonus. And to add annoyance and insult to injur,, this happens despite my bill type being rated as 'Star'. K-Electirc's management must have some weird sense of humour. Karachi
