Split in federation led to abuse of power.

ISLAMABAD: A meeting of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PJUJ)’s unification committee on Saturday reviewed its work to date and was assured that it was moving in their right direction.

The unification committee tasked a sub-committee, headed by Rahimullah Yusufzai, to investigate the circumstances leading to the split in the PFUJ and directed it to submit its report by June 10.

Yusufzai expressed his desire to consult friends from Karachi Union of Journalists and others from the port city before finalising the report.

After going through the evidence and information collected by the unification committee in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi, Hussain Naqi said that irregularities committed by both the factions during the 2013 elections were of such a scale that it looked more like a farce.

The committee also considered a written communication from Sattar Javaid, member PFUJ election committee 2013.

He pointed out that both groups took part in the election process, submitted nomination papers and fully participated in the balloting and counting process.

During its recent visit to Karachi the committee unearthed reasons for delay in completing the process of the PFUJ’s unification.

It also realised that a handful of members were pressing their personal financial interests for which the committee has called for auditing the accounts of both the factions to find out how much each faction mobilised during their respective tenures.

PFUJ’s regular bank account was frozen by their bankers soon after two factions claiming to be the genuine representative of the community emerged.
