ISLAMABAD: A local court on Saturday sent an officer of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on three-day physical remand for allegedly giving false evidence in a case. The Special Investigation Unit of the agency arrested and booked Sheikh Ijaz Ahmed, an assistant director, on May 27 for his alleged “misstatement” in an FIA case before the Lahore High Court.

He was presented before Senior Civil Judge Abdul Ghafoor Kakar on Saturday. The FIA investigation officer told the court that Ahmed was on leave when he appeared before a court in Lahore and recorded a statement which went contrary to FIA records. He was booked on the complaint of Deputy Attorney General Mian Irfan Akram.

Naveed Raza Mughal, the defence counsel, maintained that the case against his client was part of “FIA’s internal wrangling”. On the FIA request, the court awarded three-day physical remand of the suspect.
