Agri Income Tax: Govt stopped from collecting tax

Our Correspondent May 16, 2016

LAHORE:

Justice Ayesha A Malik of the Lahore High Court on Monday stopped the Revenue Department from collecting tax on agricultural income. The court gave the provincial government till July 20 to respond to several petitions filed against the levy of the tax. The petitioners’ counsel had submitted that the imposition of the tax through an ordinance [issued by the provincial government] was illegal. He said the farming community was already paying [indirect] taxes to the government and should not be burdened with an income tax. He requested the court to declare void the levy of the tax on agricultural income.
