ISLAMABAD: Australia is a strong supporter of Pakistan’s democracy, and its democratic institutions, High Commissioner Margaret Adamson said at a farewell function for 19 Pakistani parliamentary officers.

The parliamentary officers — from the Senate, the National Assembly, and the four provincial assemblies — are going to the University of Queensland under the Australia Awards programme to undertake an intensive course on “Effective and Efficient Management of Parliamentary Committees.”

Adamson noted that Australia and Pakistan have shared democratic values and many similarities in their parliamentary systems.

“I trust that you will learn from Australia’s systems and experiences and make the best use of the knowledge you gain to benefit the effective operation of Pakistan’s parliamentary committees,” she said

Australia Awards build the skills and knowledge of individuals through long-term scholarships, short courses, and other training opportunities.
