LAHORE: A mentally disabled 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped and tortured to death by a "fake faith healer” in Burewala, a city in southern Punjab’s Vehari district, on Wednesday.

According to reports, the mother of the victim had brought her to a “spiritual healer” some five days ago for treatment. However, the treatment meant that the man reportedly subjected the underage girl to rape and physical torture which resulted in her death.

“Bhagan Bibi, wife of Muhammad Yaseen Jatt, who is a resident of Burewala city took her daughter Sara to Pir Jindwada’s astana five days ago and was told by the man that her daughter was possessed by some evil spirits, the removal of which will take around four days,” police sources told The Express Tribune.

The fake spiritual healer kept raping and torturing the girl for four consecutive days in the name of dealing with evil spirits which resulted in the victim’s death, sources added.

The parents of the victim brought her body back to their village and buried it late in the night after performing religious formalities. However, they did not approach the police for registration of a case against the accused.
