FAISALABAD: The Education Department has issued a communiqué to heads of public schools saying that the department had received several complaints about canteens at schools which had not been auctioned and were selling unwholesome food. A spokesperson for the department told journalists on Tuesday that the district education officer had received several complaints about “illegal” canteens at schools which sold substandard food. He said several heads of schools were apparently in cahoots with the people who ran the canteen and had received illegal gratification from them. The higher secondary education district officer has directed heads of all public schools to submit a report on canteens in the schools. If a head failed to submit the report or provided false information, strict action would be taken against them, the spokesman added. The communiqué ordered them to shut down all such canteens. “Strict action will be taken if such canteens are found operational at ant school,” the directive says.
