Heatwave in Karachi

Letter April 30, 2016
Immediate measures need to be taken so that people can easily be facilitated by doctors, ambulances and paramedics

KARACHI: With a of an estimated population of 24 million, Karachi is blazing — both politically and climatically. Scientists and meteorological departments have warned about the intense heatwave effects in Pakistan but countless people are suffering and we are in danger of losing precious lives — all because of mismanagement of cases and lack of facilities. In Karachi, the responsibility lies with the local government to build relief camps and centres. Immediate measures need to be taken so that people can easily be facilitated by doctors, ambulances and paramedics.

Furthermore, shelters furnished with necessary items for those who are suffering from heat stroke must be designated in various localities. In addition, the district disaster management authorities need to bring about improvements in the paramedics system so that we don’t lose any precious lives.
