Former Pakistan head coach Waqar Younis on Friday supported the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) decision to appoint Inzamamul Haq as chief selector for the national team.

In a series of tweets, the 44-year-old praised PCB for implementing his suggestions which he gave post 2015 World Cup.

Former chief selector Haroon Rasheed was sacked on April 4 after PCB chairman accepted the recommendation of a special committee with regards to a change in the selection committee. Rasheed also faced criticism in Waqar Younis’ post-World T20 report.

However, the former head coach still lamented the board’s other decision to employ an interim coach for the national side.

Waqar stepped down from his post as the head coach on April 4, after a meeting with the PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan.

“I am resigning as the head coach of Pakistan cricket team,” Waqar had said while addressing the media outside PCB headquarters. “I am stepping away with a heavy heart. I want to thank everyone with whom I have worked honestly for the last 19 months. I tried my best to help all the players become better versions of themselves.”

Earlier, the name of Test cricketer Iqbal Qasim also surfaced in news for the post of chief selector.

Shahan Hassan | 8 years ago | Reply Selection of Inzamam-ul Haq as chief selector of PCB is a smart choice, now I would love to see Mohsin Khan as Pakistan team's head coach. Mohsin Khan possesses ability to transform the culture prevailing within the national team at present. He has shown a good part of that ability when he was appointed the team's head coach some years ago. Therefore, he rightfully deserves that spot.
