LAHORE:

Leader of Opposition Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly on Friday condemning PTV’s failure to air speeches of Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly (NA) Khurshid Shah and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan during an NA session on Thursday.

The resolution was submitted in the wake of opposition’s protest in the Provincial Assembly over allegations coming out of Panama Papers leak. The speeches in the National Assembly also covered the same issue. Rasheed demanded that an inquiry be held into the matter and action taken against those responsible [for not airing the speeches].

Speaking to the media in front of the Punjab Assembly, Rasheed criticised the state-run TV for blacking out the speeches. “We will take up the resolution in the House as well.” He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should form a commission, headed by the chief justice of Pakistan, to probe allegations resulting from Panama Papers leak. He said false assurances would not address the concerns. “The Panama Papers have triggered a debate the world over forcing some government leaders to resign,” he said.
