LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to abolish 550 public servant posts to cut its expenditures on Sunday.
Speaking to the media in Lahore, Punjab Chief Minister's advisor Zulfiqar Khosa said that the dismissed officials will only get their basic salary till they are re-integrated into active service.
He told to the media at 90 SQA that 550 posts will be abolished for rightsizing and persons appointed against these posts will be adjusted on other vacancies in provincial departments.
Zulfiqar said that this move is part of the government's austerity drive, which comprises a cut of 10 per cent in the non-development budget.
He added that the dismissal orders were being issued across the board for grade one to grade 19 officials. He added that there were no plans to dismiss any officials from Finance, Home, Health and Local Government departments. He further stated that downsizing will still be carried out in the police department, where 17 Additional Inspector Generals are serving at the moment.
The Punjab government expects to save roughly six billion rupees by cutting their expenditures.
