World T20 warm-up: Pakistan win by 15 runs against Sri Lanka

Mohammad Hafeez scored an unbeaten 70 from 49 deliveries, while Imad Wasim claimed four wickets in his allotted overs

Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by 15 runs on Monday in their opening World T20 warm-up match at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, India.

Opting to bat first, Pakistan put up a total of 157 for five; thanks to Mohammad Hafeez who scored an unbeaten 70 from 49 deliveries. While Sharjeel Khan, Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad scored 23, 19 and 18 respectively; captain Shahid Afridi was dismissed for a duck.

For Sri Lanka, Thisara Perera claimed two wickets, whereas Senanayake, Herath and Chameera claimed one wicket apiece.

World T20: Pakistan arrives in Kolkata amid high security

Even though Dinesh Chandimal (30) and Lahiru Thirimanne (45) provided Sri Lanka with a good start, the island nation fell 15 runs short of the total due to fierce bowling from Imad Wasim, who claimed four wickets in his four allotted overs. Mohammad Irfan took two wickets, while Wahab Riaz sent one batsman to the pavilion.

Pakistan missed their first warm-up match against Bangladesh in Kolkata due to security concerns, but agreed to join the tournament on Friday after written assurances for security by the Indian government.

Pakistan green-lights World T20 appearance

Initially being dropped prior to the Asia Cup, Ahmed Shehzad returned as opener for Pakistan whereas Sri Lanka played under their new skipper Angelo Matthews after Lasith Malinga’s resignation as team captain.
