It is time to get rid of IMF, says Dr Chaudhry

Punjab university students adjudged winners

LAHORE: Former chief economist of Pakistan and former vice-chancellor Pakistan Institute of Development Studies Dr Rashid Ahmed Chaudhry has said that the time has come for Pakistan to get rid of the IMF for the safety and security of the country and its people.

Addressing the participants and the audience of a debate on “Is it Time to Say Goodbye to the IMF’ organised by the Department of Graduate, Institute of Development Studies, Lahore School of Economics. He was accompanied by former federal secretary Javed Sadiq Malik and representative of the Lahore School of Economics Shah Rukh Khan.

“Let’s ditch the IMF,” Chaudhry said, “and develop our abilities so that the country gets economically and socially strong and organised.”

He also distributed cash prizes, trophies and appreciation certificates among the winners. Twelve students from Punjab University and FC College University participated in the debate and spoke for or against the topic. A team of Lahore School of Economics participated as host team in the competition. They did not run for any prize.

The judges decided that the Punjab University team won the competition and were awarded Rs10 thousand cash, trophy and appreciation certificates while the FC College University team remained the runner up and was awarded Rs5 thousand cash prize, a trophy and appreciation letters.

The best individual award was given to Punjab University student Salman Farrukh while the other prominent position holders were Tajmeel Hussain and Shahan Zafar (Punjab University),  Behroze Ali and Muhammad Ali (FC College University) and Shah Rukh Khan and Bilal Khan (Lahore School of Economics).
