Sports in Kohat: Let the U-23 Games begin

1,000 players expected to participate in the games

PESHAWAR: U-23 Games (Kohat Division) kicked off at Kohat Sports Complex on Tuesday. The event was organised by Directorate General of Sports and Youth Affairs, a handout stated.

The games will continue for three days, according to a handout issued by the department.

The handout added more than 1,000 players would compete in games such as cricket, football, hockey, basketball, karate, judo, taekwondo, boxing, badminton, table tennis, squash, tennis, athletics, and gymnastics.

Kohat Commissioner Musarat Hussain was the chief guest at the inauguration.

Hussain formally announced the commencement of the three-day sports affair, which will include 15 different sporting events for participants hailing from Karak, Hangu and Kohat.

A local band performed at the opening ceremony which also saw a march past by the participants. Schoolchildren also put their gymnastics on display.

Hussain lauded the efforts of sports directorate and said, “The event will help find new talent in the region and will present a soft image of the country to the world.”

He added the provincial government had allocated Rs74 million for sports activities which will be held at district, regional and provincial levels.
