Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram on Saturday said that he is against forming a committee to evaluate Pakistan’s dismal performance in the 2016 Asia cup.

Shahid Afridi’s men crashed out of the tournament following their defeat at the hands of hosts Bangladesh by five wickets on Wednesday.

The Islamabad United team director said he cannot understand the idea of forming a special committee less than a week before the World T20 in India.

“I just cannot agree with the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) decision to form a special committee to evaluate the Asia Cup performance,” said Akram while talking to the media. “It does not make sense as the World T20 is just a few days away.”

The legendary left-arm fast-bowler questioned the authorities about the objective of forming such a committee. “Can anyone tell me what the committee will do in these few days?” asked Akram. “I just cannot understand the motive behind it. The mega event is just a few days away, and rather than backing these players, we are putting them under more pressure.”

The 49-year-old also backed Afridi to lead the team in the upcoming world event, and said he is the best man to lead the side in the current mix. “In the current lot, I don’t think there is anyone better than Afridi to lead the side,” said Akram.

When asked if he would like to coach Pakistan cricket team in the near future, Wasim said that if he is offered a role, he is ready to serve Pakistan cricket in any capacity.

“See, I won’t be able to work if I am called in to coach at the eleventh hour,” said Akram. “I work according to a set schedule. I am ready to serve Pakistan in any capacity, but for that someone should offer me a role.”
