Bollywood actor Sonam Kapoor has decided against following into the footsteps of her contemporaries Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra to Hollywood.

According to DNA India, the actor doesn't want the "exotic Indian girl" title to follow her name after having worked hard towards building a 'serious' image in the industry.

Sonam Kapoor simply can't get over 'Neerja' ban in Pakistan

"I would like to take my projects to the West. I do not want to be the hot Indian girl there. I have worked very hard not to be this exotic Indian girl in India. I have worked very hard to the point where I could get to do a film like Neerja and be taken seriously," she said.

She added that such roles might restart her career, where she might have to prove her acting prowess. "I do not want to start all over again. If I can get something with a lot of gravitas, I would definitely want to do it. I would approach them myself. If it’s a great role, why not? But if it has something right and which attracts me," said Sonam.

She wishes to chisel herself first and become better in her 'craft' rather than spanning out her reach to the international world.

"For me, conquering the world is not important. For me conquering and honing my craft is more important. It doesn’t matter what language I get to work in, as long as I get to explore something about myself and explore a character that I want to do. I will make a decision based on the fact that there’s something that I can do in it," the actor said.

She also cited the example of films like The Lunchbox and Masaan, saying, "There has to be something much more… There are so many roles being written, so why not? I want a strong, amazing character. Films like Neerjahave a lot of potential of crossing over. Look at how well The Lunchbox and Masaan were received. They crossed international barriers."
