ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday lauded the Pakistan Cricket Board on the successful completion of Pakistan’s inaugural national cricket league.

"PSL has provided an excellent opportunity to cricket lovers across the globe to rejoice and celebrate the spirit of cricket. It has also provided an opportunity for young players to display their talent, as well as learn from senior players," Nawaz said.

The premier also lauded the role and efforts of PCB chairman Shahryar Khan and PSL chairman Najam Sethi, along with all those who helped organise the event.

Islamabad crowned PSL champions

“The government is supportive of all such initiatives which help highlight a positive image of Pakistan,” the premier said.

A day after Islamabad United were crowned the inaugural champions of the PSL after they beat Quetta Gladiators in the final by six wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium late Tuesday, the premier in a statement released by the PM House extended his heartfelt congratulations to all participating teams and players for their enthusiasm through out the tournament.

"No one loses in sports, all those who play are winners," PM Nawaz added.

With the victory, Islamabad bagged a $500,000 winning purse and the coveted ‘Shooting Star’ trophy. Quetta took home a winning prize of $200,000 as the runner-ups.
